Fabric Stores: Quilts, Designs, Discounts Online And Quilt Shops

When embarking upon the formidable task of designing and sewing a magnificent quilt, one must be especially careful to choose the right fabrics. Only the precision and artistry of the sewing techniques involved are as important as the fabric of the quilt itself. The possible designs for a quilt are limited only by the bounds of the quilter's imagination, ranging from fundamental block designs to pieces that seem to mimic the styles of the world's most famous painters. Fortunately, quilters can choose from among many fabric stores which offer every type of fiber, color, pattern and style a quilter could wish for. How to choose one of the fabric stores to utilize is then the next question.

Quilters have the simple option of choosing one of the mainstream arts-and-crafts "chain" fabric stores which include quilting fabrics among their wares. JoAnn Fabrics is probably one of the most widely known fabric stores around, and it of course has a respectable selection of items for making quilts - squares of fabric in a variety of designs, threads, quilting kits, sewing machines, tools, frames and even 35 different educational software programs for quilters.

Michaels, although also a renowned arts-and-crafts chain, is not foremost among fabric stores for quilting needs. However, Michaels does carry an array of tools necessary for and/or helpful with quilting, including scissors, rotary mats, fabric circle cutters and quilting rulers. It also has a couple of charming ready-made quilts, designed especially for babies.

However, if none of the chain fabric stores have that special something a quilter may be looking for, an excellent idea would be an online quilt shop. These online stores may sell ready-made quilts as well as individual fabrics and quilters' tools, with many offering incredible discounts. The Bear Paw Quilt Company has over 10,000 bolts of quilting fabrics, many of them from well known manufacturers, and offers them at very fair discounted prices. It has an especially long list of fabrics designed with logos of popular sports teams, and also Disney, military and Nascar logos. Some fabric stores, though confined to a single location, will sell at least some of their fabrics online. For instance, Burkholder Fabrics is located in Lancaster County in Pennsylvania, has made many of its highest-quality fabrics available to online shoppers.

Quilt.com, or "The Worldwide Quilting Page," is probably one of the best Internet resources for anyone looking for online fabric stores. Along with sharing tips all quilters will find useful, it has an extensive list of quilting resources and fabrics stores - direct manufacturers, online retailers and the sites for many of the highest-quality designers and brands. Among these are Glorious Patchwork, which almost exclusively carries quilt fabrics by the museum-quality designer Kaffe Fassett. Another option is On Board Fabrics, which specializes in colors and designs reminiscent of East Coast seaside life.

Quiltshops.com is also an excellent place to search for fabric stores, with a search engine that scans over 175 different online fabric stores, and even has a contest drawing each month in which a customer can win $500 for shopping. eQuilter.com is not a search engine for fabric stores, but is a store in itself; it has a vast number of extraordinary and stunningly beautiful fabrics that would likely be hard to find elsewhere. eQuilter.com is one of the sites on the list of fabric stores at Quilt.com.

So quilters are apparently not at a loss when it comes to finding fabric stores, especially over the tremendously convenient medium of the Internet. The many discounts at these online fabric stores should not leave their bank accounts at a loss either. The choices are seemingly as limitless as the quilter's imagination.
